“It’s only in Kenya where Police Men are coerced by Kasongo to pay for Affordable housing levy but wanaishi Kwa tangi za maji.”-Ndengwa Njiru

Lawyer Ndengwa Njiru has called out the government for what he terms as blatant injustice towards police officers, accusing authorities of forcing them to contribute to the Affordable Housing Levy while failing to provide them with decent living conditions.

Speaking on Wednesday, Njiru said it is ironic that officers are coerced by “Kasongo” to pay the levy, yet many continue to live in substandard and cramped facilities.

“It’s only in Kenya where policemen are coerced by Kasongo to pay for the Affordable Housing Levy, but they still live in water tanks,” he remarked, referring to the metallic, container-like structures used as makeshift housing for officers in some areas.

Njiru’s remarks have reignited debate on police welfare, with many Kenyans questioning why officers who enforce the law and shoulder heavy security responsibilities continue to be housed in poor conditions despite mandatory deductions from their salaries.
