Bad News for Senior Officer as Technician Reveals Who Secretly Hired Him to Erase CCTV Evidence

The investigation surrounding the mysterious death of teacher Albert Ojwang has taken quite an unexpected turn! A CCTV technician has come forward with some serious claims that link the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Nairobi Central Police Station, Samson Taalam, to an apparent cover-up.

Kelvin Mutisya Matava, the technician responsible for installing the CCTV system, was taken into custody on Friday in Saika. He faces allegations of tampering with crucial surveillance footage that might have shed light on what led to Ojwang’s passing while in police custody on June 8.

According to insiders, Matava revealed that he was instructed to format the hard drives of the CCTV system after receiving a payment of Sh3,000 from OCS Taalam. He detailed how he was contacted that morning and asked to erase all footage from June 6 and 7. Because he couldn’t delete selectively, the instructions were to wipe everything clean and restore the system to its factory settings.

Interestingly, Matava shared that he was advised to dress casually so he wouldn’t stand out as a technician. When he returned the next day to replace the storage drive, he found that the system had already been tampered with once again.

In a surprising twist, Matava also claimed that one of the officers involved later passed his contact number to an official from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), who was seeking his assistance to recover the deleted footage.

His arrest comes just a day after another police officer was detained in connection with Ojwang’s case. These developments are really putting pressure on the authorities to address the worrying inconsistencies and suspected evidence tampering in a situation that has sparked significant public outrage.
