The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Nairobi’s Central Police Station, Samson Talam, has been arrested in connection with the mysterious death of 31-year-old teacher Albert Ojwang’, who died while in police custody.
Talam was apprehended on Friday in Eldoret town after days of evading authorities. Police sources revealed that he had switched off his mobile phones and gone into hiding since Thursday, allegedly to avoid arrest. Detectives tracked his movements and finally captured him with the help of a coordinated operation.
Albert Ojwang’, a secondary school teacher and father of one, was found dead in a cell at Central Police Station, where he had been detained following an arrest. His death has triggered public outrage, with civil society groups and teacher unions demanding justice and accountability.
Talam’s lawyer, Felix Kiprono, confirmed the arrest, stating that his client was taken to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) headquarters in Nairobi for questioning.
Mr. Talam was arrested in Eldoret and transported to Nairobi. He is cooperating with investigators and will follow the legal process,” Kiprono said.So far, three individuals have been arrested in connection with Ojwang’s death:
