Brian Omollo, popularly known as Khaligraph Jones, has shared a glimpse of his challenging early life. In a now-viral clip circulating online, the celebrated Kenyan rapper opened up about the struggles he faced growing up, describing his childhood as bitter and full of pain.
Khaligraph revealed that during his primary and high school years, he battled low self-esteem, largely due to poor hygiene and a lack of basic necessities. He recounted days when he missed school after going to bed hungry, highlighting the extreme poverty his family endured.
“There were times when life was so tough that we couldn’t even afford food. If you had just two shillings, you’d buy Piriton, take it, and sleep deeply so you wouldn’t feel the hunger,” Khaligraph disclosed.
He also shared that he owned just one grey pair of trousers, which he wore both as part of his school uniform and at home. This, he said, further affected his confidence, as he feared attending school because of his appearance and odor.
“My school trousers were the same ones I wore at home all the time. On top of that, I smelled bad. I didn’t have a pleasant scent, and it crushed my self-esteem. I couldn’t walk around with friends or socialize. Every time I thought of going to school, I remembered how many people would be there, and I was scared because of how I smelled,” Khaligraph admitted.
In a separate interview on Citizen TV, Khaligraph opened up about how these struggles motivated him to work hard and change his circumstances. He explained that, as a child, his family lived in a house with leaking roofs and slept on rugs.
Reflecting on his painful past, he shared that his difficult upbringing inspired him to build a better life, including constructing a mansion. “I really struggled. When you see things like the mansion or a mall, it’s because we once slept outside and on the floor. Now, I must avenge those hardships,” he revealed.
Khaligraph Jones’ story is a testament to resilience and determination, showing how one can rise above adversity to achieve greatness.
