A tragic incident unfolded at Igunga Girls High School in Vihiga County, resulting in the loss of one student’s life and injuries to several others. The unfortunate event occurred when a motor vehicle collided with a group of Form One students who were crossing the road from their classes to their dormitories.
Sabatia Sub County OCPD Patrick Gogo confirmed the incident, highlighting that the students were struck by the speeding vehicle, leading to fatal consequences for one student who succumbed on the spot. The remaining three students, who sustained injuries, were promptly transported to Vihiga Referal Hospital for urgent medical care.
Providing details about the accident, Gogo expressed, “Today, we witnessed a distressing accident involving a speeding motor vehicle that struck down four students, with one of them tragically losing their life instantly. The other three are currently receiving treatment at the hospitals and are in stable condition.”
In response to the incident, law enforcement swiftly took action by arresting the suspect, identified as a medical doctor. The vehicle involved in the accident was seized and taken to Vihiga Police Station for thorough inspection.
The suspect is expected to face legal consequences and is set for arraignment in court. The charges include various traffic offenses, such as causing death and injury. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and the severe consequences that can arise from negligence on the part of drivers.
