Amos Rono, the groom involved in the disrupted wedding ceremony in Bomet, provided thoughtful advice to couples celebrating Valentine’s Day today.
Rono urged couples not to yield to the undue pressure associated with this non-compulsory celebration of love.
“Today is a day for lovers, and I want to emphasize that if you are not taken somewhere special, don’t make a fuss because it happened to me too, and I didn’t bother much about it,” Rono conveyed in an interview with a local news outlet.
He further encouraged partners to empathize with each other’s financial situations, emphasizing that it is not worth ending a relationship due to the demands of Valentine’s Day.
“Now, if the person who was supposed to take you out doesn’t have money, don’t bother and don’t get too angry. Your relationship shouldn’t end like that. God said we must love each other; we are there for each other. So, don’t get upset; go and enjoy yourself elsewhere,” Rono added.
The Bomet man shared that he spent Valentine’s Day alone, still coping with heartbreak from his ex-fiancée who abruptly ended their engagement.
“I am at home, relaxed, with no one to go out with since my wedding didn’t happen, and I was heartbroken,” he shared.
Single and not actively seeking a partner, Amos Rono revealed that he is avoiding the dating scene until he secures a permanent job and gains the confidence to pursue relationships.
“I’m not planning to find a wife; I haven’t entered the dating market. I had initially said four months, but I think I’ll extend it to six or eight months because I want to settle first and secure a permanent job. Once I have a permanent job, I will then actively seek a partner with whom I can spend every Valentine’s Day,” Rono explained.
Reflecting on the wedding drama, Rono disclosed that he was supposed to marry Nelly Chepkoech at Kapsoyo AGC church in Bomet on December 9, 2024. However, the wedding was abruptly called off after the bride requested more time to make up her mind.
In a statement following the viral online incident, Rono decided to end the relationship and subsequently canceled the wedding. While expressing his best wishes for Chepkoech’s future, he made it clear that they would be going their separate ways.
Although ruling out any reconciliation, Rono blamed Chepkoech for causing the cancellation, citing her involvement with another man. After the ordeal, Rono received emotional support from Kericho Governor Erick Mutai at his office.
