Nairobi resident Beatrice Khamadi is currently grappling with the heart-wrenching loss of her daughter, Sharon, who tragically passed away in Saudi Arabia. A mother of three, Khamadi now carries the weight of an irreparable void left by Sharon’s untimely demise.
Sharon, a diligent and affectionate daughter, set out on a journey to Saudi Arabia, seeking better opportunities and a brighter future. Her decision to leave her family behind was fueled by a sincere desire to alleviate the burdens on her mother and provide for her own son.
Despite Khamadi’s cautionary advice, Sharon remained steadfast in her belief that pursuing opportunities abroad would make a positive impact on her family’s well-being. Tragically, Sharon’s aspirations were cut short, and barely a year after her departure, the family received the devastating news of her passing.
Khamadi, with tear-filled eyes, recalled advising Sharon to allow her to shoulder the hardships and be the sole provider for the family. Sharon, influenced by her mother’s past struggles, insisted on taking on the responsibility herself.
“I had warned her and asked her to let me be the one to work hard to care for them. She said I had been good to them, and she had seen my suffering and would rather be the one to leave home and not her,” Khamadi shared during an interview with TUKO.CO.KE.
The family’s hopeful expectations for Sharon’s improved life quickly dissipated as she encountered challenges in Saudi Arabia. Within a few months, Sharon confided in her sister about mistreatment by her employer, expressing exhaustion and a strong desire to escape.
A poignant photograph sent to her sister vividly depicted the toll that these hardships had taken on Sharon’s health. Living in the Kibera slums, the family had anticipated positive change with Sharon’s journey to Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately, their hopes were shattered, and they were left to confront the painful reality of a beloved family member returning not in triumph but in a coffin, the cause of her death veiled in mystery.
