Roots Party leader Prof. Wajackoyah chose to exit the graduation ceremony at MMUST after feeling neglected, as detailed in a statement he shared on social media. The university had extended an invitation for him to officiate the 20th graduation ceremony, an invitation that originated from MMUST Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simon Shibairo.
The invitation, which expressed cordiality on behalf of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Council, Senate, Management Board, Staff, Students, and the Graduating Class of 2023, had invited Prof. Wajackoyah to the milestone event at the main Campus on Kakamega – Webuye road.
Despite accepting the invitation and making an appearance at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Prof. Wajackoyah asserted that he was disregarded and not given the opportunity to deliver his speech to the scholars present.
According to Prof. Wajackoyah, not only did the Vice-Chancellor overlook him, but also Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen ignored him, despite public pleas. Prof. Wajackoyah expressed his dissatisfaction with the treatment he received during the graduation ceremony, stating, “I was invited by the VC, gowned and treated like [expletive]. I had to leave after listening to Murkomen’s….”
He went on to explain that he was supposed to be acknowledged by Murkomen after the Vice-Chancellor ignored him, despite pleas from other academics. Nevertheless, Prof. Wajackoyah found a silver lining in the situation as people followed him in protest, amplifying the significance of the incident.
In the aftermath of these events, the irate Roots Party leader left the graduation ceremony, accompanied by followers staging a protest in response to the perceived neglect.
