Eric Omondi TO Help “Njugu Karanga” Hawker who was Harassed by City Kanjos

Eric Omondi has reached out to the online community, seeking assistance in locating a street vendor who was visibly distressed following an encounter with municipal law enforcement officers, commonly known as Kanjo, in the city.

The comedian, known for his recent forays into activism and philanthropy, expressed his commitment to supporting the groundnut hawker after a video capturing the vendor’s distress at the hands of city inspectorate officers went viral.

“Wakimwaga Tunaokota…Wakibomoa TUNAJENGA!!! I am in search of this young man. If you possess his contact number, please comment or DM ME🙏🙏. But always remember, OUR TIME IS COMING!!!!” Eric stated.

Susan Auma, the Principal Secretary (PS) for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development, also joined the initiative, appealing to netizens for assistance in locating the same groundnut hawker. The PS urged Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to establish secure operational environments for micro and small enterprises.

“Respected @County Government of Nairobi, led by Governor @SakajaJohnson, I earnestly urge the formalization and integration of micro and small enterprises, along with the creation of secure operational environments. It is crucial to preserve and nurture these enterprises, acknowledging that their downfall does not contribute to Nairobi’s affluence and prosperity,” she wrote.

Eric Omondi’s advocacy for the groundnut hawker follows a similar effort a month earlier when he raised Ksh556,000 in just three hours to aid a smokie vendor harassed by aggressive city county askaris.

In October 2023, smokie vendor Quinter Adhiambo suffered losses when municipal officers seized her trolley. Eric Omondi took to Instagram Live to raise funds for Adhiambo, demonstrating his commitment to supporting vulnerable street vendors.
