In Mwala, Machakos, a man has been arrested by the police for the fatal stabbing of a woman in a supermarket last weekend.
The Mwala subcounty police commander, Nancy Jerobon, confirmed the apprehension of Patrick Mwangi. He was taken into custody after being discharged from Machakos Level 5 Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment since Thursday, July 27.
The incident occurred at a supermarket in Masii town, Mwala subcounty, on Saturday, July 22, when the suspect, caught on CCTV, violently attacked his former lover, Eunice Syokau.
According to reports, Patrick Mwangi, who allegedly committed the murder by stabbing his girlfriend, is now in stable condition after being treated at Machakos Level 5 Hospital. He is currently being detained at Masii police station, awaiting processing to appear in court on Monday, as per Jerobon’s statement to the Star on Thursday.
The arrest came in response to the pleas for justice from the family of the deceased, Eunice Syokau, on Thursday. Syokau’s mother, Damaris Nduku, revealed that the suspect had been demanding custody of the child they had together before their separation.
“My child was killed by her boyfriend, who is also the father of her child on Saturday. They had broken up, and the man wanted custody of the child,” Nduku explained to reporters.
Before the tragic incident, the couple had been living together, but they separated, and Eunice settled in Masii town, where she opened a business. Unfortunately, the suspect followed and killed her there.
Nduku also mentioned that she had never met the suspect before, making the situation even more distressing for her. She is now pleading with the government to ensure justice for her daughter.
