Five people tragically lost their lives in an early morning road accident on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Tuesday.
Gilgil South County Police Commander Jamleck Ngaruiya reported that the collision occurred when a truck and a saloon car traveling in opposite directions collided head-on around 7:00 a.m. The saloon car was en route from Nakuru when the accident happened.
The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of a woman and four children. Another man was injured and is currently receiving treatment at St. Joseph Hospital.
Commander Ngaruiya urged motorists to exercise caution when overtaking on this busy road, which is frequented by various types of vehicles, including long-distance trucks and those carrying wide loads. He noted that some drivers attempt to overtake multiple vehicles at once, making it challenging to return to their lanes when faced with oncoming traffic.
The bodies were transported to the Naivasha Sub County hospital morgue, while the damaged vehicles were towed to Gilgil Police Station. This section of the road, extending to Gilgil, is known for its dangerous conditions.
