2-year-old kid dies after electrocution in neighbour’s bedroom

Shock and sorrow gripped Chemosoren village in Bomet County after a two-year-old boy was electrocuted to death at a neighbour’s house.

Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga confirmed the incident, saying the child had accompanied his mother, who works as a househelp, to the residence.

According to police reports, the toddler wandered into the bedroom while his mother was busy with household chores. In the room, he reportedly inserted a pair of scissors into a live power extension cable connected to a wall socket.

Tragically, the boy was discovered lying lifeless on the floor, still clutching the scissors in his right hand, which remained stuck to the socket. His mother, identified as Mercy Chebet, said she did not notice when her son slipped into the room.

Police officers, accompanied by Kenya Power technicians, visited the scene and secured the electrical connections. They later moved the child’s body to Kapkatet mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination.

The heartbreaking incident has sparked fresh concerns about child safety around electricity, with authorities urging parents and guardians to take extra precautions when young children are in environments with live electrical appliances.
