“Yeye ni nani”: Angry residents demand Oscar Sudi’s Timba XO nightclub shut down days after his fallout with DP Rigathi Gachagua

Some residents of Kapseret in Uasin Gishu have expressed their discontent with MP Oscar Sudi for allegedly establishing an entertainment venue near a school. On Monday, May 28, the residents called on the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner to shut down Timba XO, a nightclub reportedly owned by Sudi.

The residents are particularly concerned because the nightclub is located just 100 meters from Nova School, which they believe poses a danger to the students. “We are urging the County Commissioner to promptly close down Oscar Sudi’s Timba XO Club due to its proximity to Nova School. Other establishments have been shut down; why is this one being spared? Is it a church or what?” questioned one resident.

Concerns Over MP Sudi’s Financial Activities

In addition to their concerns about the nightclub, the residents have questioned Sudi’s sources of funding. They accuse him of promoting alcoholism in the area by constructing large bars, which contradicts President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s campaign against illicit brews. The residents are also puzzled by Sudi’s significant financial contributions during fundraising events. “I am astonished that Oscar Sudi can donate KSh 3 million, even more than the president. He needs to explain where this money is coming from,” said another resident.

Merewet Ward Residents Address Alcoholism

Meanwhile, in Merewet ward, Uasin Gishu County, residents are distressed by the rampant alcoholism among men and youth. They report that many men spend their days drinking, neglecting their responsibilities to their families. The local Member of County Assembly (MCA) Isaac Chirchir, along with a local chief and community members, have committed to achieving zero alcohol access in their villages. A concerned woman highlighted the severe impact of alcoholism, noting that illicit brews and cheap wines and spirits sold in local bars have rendered many men unproductive.
