Yesu wa Tongaren makes U-turn and picks Wajackoyah as his lawyer to represent him in court.
Roots Party Leader George Wajackoyah will represent Eliud Wekesa alias Yesu wa Tongaren in court.
Wakackoyah together with his two other representative lawyers, will be defending the preacher in a case where he was accused of unlawful operation of an unregistered society, radicalization, and money laundering.
He said he did not break any law and he shall be set free once the interrogation is done.
The embattled preacher had on May 10 said he will not need lawyers if arraigned over his church activities.
“If I am arraigned, I don’t plan to have any physical lawyer to defend me but instead my lawyers will be the sun and the moon since before God I have done nothing wrong,” he said.
Wekesa was last week summoned by the Bungoma DCI officer Elijah Macharia for questioning over his New Jerusalem church and has been in police custody.
The prosecution also declared him mentally unstable asking the court to grant them permission to conduct a mental assessment on the suspect.
“The court has agreed and granted permission to the prosecution side to detain the suspect for four more days to allow them to complete the probe and carry out the mental assessment,” Olando said.
The prosecution also alleges that there have been criminal activities on the indoctrination at the suspect’s church that might be linked to the Shakahola incident of Pastor Paul Mackenzie who had been arrested recently.
Yesu Wa Tongaren is to be expected in court today.
