Roseline Atieno, also known as Rosie, has recently captured the public’s attention in Siaya County. Her farewell videos to her employer and their children in Lebanon garnered widespread attention, thrusting her into the spotlight.
Having embarked on her journey to Lebanon in 2021, Rosie sought better opportunities, driven by the desire to provide a brighter future for her three children. She candidly shares her decision-making process, revealing that she made the move during a challenging period in her marriage. Her departure from Kenya occurred after spending the Christmas break there.
Reflecting on her unexpected online fame, Rosie expresses her surprise, describing the experience as overwhelming. Mixed emotions characterized her reaction, as happiness and fear intertwined in response to the unexpected attention.
Rosie recounts her initial apprehension before moving to Lebanon but emphasizes that she prayed for a supportive and caring family. Upon meeting her employers for the first time at the airport, she describes an immediate connection, stating, “We blended from the first day.”
Describing her employers as good people and content creators, Rosie recalls normal interactions, sometimes being recorded while playing with the children. Despite initially feeling lonely in Lebanon, Rosie found solace in the company of the children she cared for, expressing deep affection for them. She notes how their presence filled the emptiness she felt from being away from her own kids.
Looking ahead, Rosie expresses a heartfelt desire for a reunion between her Lebanese employers and her children, hoping they could visit Kenya. Addressing the emotions surrounding her departure, she explains tearfully, “I cried because I had mixed feelings about meeting my kids after two years and leaving kids I had taken care of for two years who treated me like their parents.”
Reflecting on her time in Lebanon, Rosie shares that she felt a sense of belonging, emphasizing that the only difference was being compensated for her work. She notes the children’s appreciation for her genuine self.
When asked about the possibility of returning to Lebanon, Rosie remains open to the idea but has not set a specific date. She expresses a willingness to work with her employers until the children are a bit older, showcasing her commitment to the bond she formed during her time in Lebanon.
