‎Utawala Man Nabbed After DCI Officers Discover Loaded Gun Stashed in Refrigerator Beside Githeri

‎ Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a man in Utawala after discovering a firearm stashed in one of the most unlikely places—a refrigerator.

‎The suspect, identified as Brown Carlos Butrose Kombo, was apprehended on Friday during a raid at a residence in Kelvin Heights, Embakasi Sub-County. Acting on intelligence, the officers stormed the house and unearthed a Glock pistol loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, hidden among household food items, including bags of githeri.

‎Images released by the DCI showed the black pistol placed next to frozen goods, alongside a separate photo of the weapon and its magazine laid out as evidence. Police said the scene was processed and the exhibits secured before Kombo was placed in custody. He is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

‎In a statement, the DCI emphasized that the arrest was part of ongoing crackdowns targeting illegal firearms and organized criminal networks in Nairobi and neighboring counties.

‎Elsewhere, a different team of detectives arrested six suspected gang members believed to be behind a series of violent incidents in Kajiado. Five were intercepted in Kirinyaga while traveling in a Probox, with police recovering a walkie-talkie, mobile phones, gloves, and surveillance gadgets. The sixth suspect, arrested in Kiserian, was found with an AK-47 rifle loaded with seven bullets, a teargas canister, and housebreaking tools.

‎Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, warning that criminal gangs have adopted increasingly creative methods to conceal weapons and evade capture.
