Deputy President William Ruto has indicated picking his long-lasting friend and Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate as the nation heads to the 2022 elections.
Addressing Nyeri inhabitants during his visit to the county yesterday, Ruto requested that the occupants permit Gachagua to go with him in his mission of looking for public votes.
“You have given me kanda ya wera (Gachagua) to assist me with looking for the public votes and you will ensure his seat here at home.
“Should I take him to help me?” the DP asked.
This is the first time the DP has alluded to a candidate from the vote-rich region after speculation of other candidates like Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua.
Gachagua has been a vocal Ruto ally in the area since the DP fell out with President Uhuru Kenyatta after the re-election of the Jubilee government in 2017.
Prior to joining elective politics, Gachagua filled in as a District Officer (DO) and as a Personal Assistant to President Uhuru Kenyatta during his fruitless 2002 presidential race.
Ruto requested that the residents embrace a six-mode casting a ballot model that will see the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party winning a greater part of the elective seats.
