‘Tulipewa Ksh 50,000 Upfront, zingine tukaambiwa tupewe Tukimaliza’: Kenyans Expose Kidney Trafficking Scheme in uasin Gishu

Several Kenyans have come forward to reveal how they were tricked into donating their kidneys as part of an alleged organ trafficking scheme based in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. Speaking before the National Assembly Health Committee, the victims described being misled by brokers who promised them quick cash and a better future.

Two victims, Emmanuel Kipkosgei and Amon Kipruto, shared their personal stories. Both were given Ksh 50,000 in advance at a lavish home in Elgon View Estate, where they were convinced to proceed with the donation process. They were told they would receive up to Ksh 1.2 million after the procedure.

Kipkosgei explained that he underwent medical tests for three weeks and was even flown to Nairobi. To his surprise, he was given a fake identity and was only paid Ksh 400,000 after the surgery. A large portion of the money was allegedly taken by brokers. Just days later, he was arrested and detained for four days, accused of engaging in illegal activities—something he believes was a setup by those behind the scheme.

Kipruto, a construction worker struggling to support his family, said he agreed to the donation to make ends meet. However, after the operation, he suffered serious complications and was left with long-term health issues and no real financial benefit.

The Health Committee also questioned local police and hospital officials suspected of being linked to the case. Members of Parliament visited the medical facility involved to investigate the situation further.

This incident is part of a broader investigation into illegal organ trade targeting vulnerable Kenyans. Many victims are lured with false promises and left physically and financially devastated, while traffickers profit from the illegal sale of organs.
