The boda boda rider who transported Fred Omondi on the day of his fatal accident has shared his recollections of their final moments together.
In a Facebook interview with Kenya Online Media, the rider explained that he was transporting Omondi from a club to Tunnel.
“I took him to Tunnel, and he requested a Bolt. He said he needed to travel far and wanted to go quickly, but my bike wasn’t fast enough. I left him at Tunnel, and I even saw he paid Ksh530 to the driver for his destination,” he recounted.
According to police records, Fred Omondi was on a motorcycle when it collided head-on with a matatu.
The accident occurred around 6:00 AM near the Caltex petrol station on Kangundo Road. Reports indicate that a Mitsubishi minibus, driven by Stephen Maina from Kayole towards the CBD, collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road.
Fredrick Odhiambo Omondi, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, died instantly.
His close friend, 2mbili, expressed confusion over why Fred was riding a motorcycle so early in the morning and questioned the circumstances leading to the accident.
At the hospital, Fred’s brother Eric revealed his disbelief, stating he thought Fred was still alive and accused the authorities of misleading him.
