Detectives investigating the brutal killing of 60-year-old Millicent Wahura Mwangi say they have made a chilling breakthrough in what is now being described as one of Nyandarua’s most disturbing homicide cases in recent years.
According to Radio 47, a detailed statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the prime suspect in the murder is none other than the victim’s own son.
The case began quietly on November 11, 2025, when Millicent was reported missing at Olkalou Police Station after she failed to return home in Mwireri village, Nyandarua Central Sub-County.
At first, officers treated the matter as a routine missing person report. However, detectives say inconsistencies in early accounts, coupled with Millicent’s sudden disappearance without personal belongings, quickly raised alarms of possible foul play.
As investigators retraced her final movements, the case took a gruesome turn three days later. On November 14, passers-by in Rumathi village, approximately 37 kilometres from Olkalou along the Malewa–Kipipiri road, made a horrifying discovery: a sack abandoned by the roadside containing a dismembered female upper body.
The remains were clothed in a distinctive white blouse with blue and black stripes, an image that would soon become central to the investigation.
Police officers from Kipipiri Police Station immediately secured the scene, launching an extensive search for additional body parts in nearby bushes and farmland.
Despite hours of combing the area, no further remains were recovered.
The body part was transferred to JM Kariuki Memorial Funeral Home for preservation, forensic examination, and eventual identification.
On November 15, the Mwangi family was summoned by investigators and positively identified the remains as those of Millicent Wahura Mwangi.
The confirmation transformed the missing person inquiry into a full-scale homicide investigation.
According to the DCI, meticulous forensic work, witness statements, and a reconstruction of events led detectives back to Millicent’s home, and to her son.
He has since been arrested and is being held as the main suspect, with investigators alleging that the crime involved sexual violence, murder, and deliberate attempts to conceal evidence.
The DCI says the investigation is ongoing, with plans to recover remaining body parts and present the suspect in court as the nation grapples with the horrifying betrayal at the heart of the case.
