A somber mood has descended on the construction site of Talanta Stadium in Nairobi after the body of a missing worker was discovered dumped in a water sump. The deceased, identified as Sammy Kyengo, age 35, had been reported missing a week earlier, sparking concern among his family and colleagues.
According to his wife, Christine Kyengo, Sam had been increasingly frustrated at work. Wages reportedly had not been paid since July, and he was planning to claim his dues and quit when he vanished on September 6th. For days, his family searched without success until the grim discovery on Saturday, September 13th. His body was found floating in a water sump behind the terraces still under construction.
Witnesses at the site described disturbing details: noticeable injuries on the back of Kyengo’s head and neck, and blood coming from his nose and mouth. These suggest the possibility of foul play, though at this stage police investigations are ongoing.
Coworkers expressed shock and fear: if one of them could disappear and end up dead at work, they say, then none of them can feel safe. The tragic incident underscores growing concerns over labor rights, employer responsibility, safety standards, and working conditions in construction sites across Kenya.
Authorities transferred the body to Nairobi Funeral Home, pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death officially. The outcome of those investigations will be key in determining whether this was an accident, an incident of criminal wrongdoing, or negligence.
