Residents of Kathanjuri village in Kyeni South, Embu County, were left in disbelief after a group of enraged women brutally attacked a fellow villager, accusing her of having an affair with a 45-year-old married man.
The shocking incident, which took place earlier this week, has caused outrage and concern in the otherwise quiet community.
According to eyewitnesses, the group of women ambushed the victim outside her home, assaulting her with sticks, stones, and household items while hurling insults at her. They accused her of breaking another woman’s marriage and bringing shame and unrest to the village.
Reports indicate that the man at the center of the controversy had allegedly been secretly involved with the victim, identified as Kiavinya, who is said to be the mother of an 11-year-old girl. Tensions in the area had reportedly been rising for weeks as rumors of the affair spread, prompting local elders to attempt mediation before the matter escalated.
Their efforts, however, proved unsuccessful. The situation spiraled out of control when the group of women decided to take matters into their own hands, resulting in a violent confrontation that left the woman seriously injured.
She was later rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police officers from Kyeni South have since launched investigations into the incident and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
Community leaders and local administrators have condemned the attack, calling for calm and urging villagers to allow law enforcement agencies to handle the matter. They stressed the importance of dialogue, restraint, and peaceful conflict resolution, emphasizing that mob justice only deepens divisions and leads to more suffering.
