President William Ruto has issued a sharp warning to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over remarks concerning his political history and role in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking during a public event, Ruto cautioned Sifuna to tread carefully when discussing him and his past involvement in the party.
“Wewe Sifuna wakati unaongea mambo yangu ujue mimi ndio mwanzilishi wa ODM, uende polepole. Ukiniskuma sana naeza ita mkutano ya waanzilishi wa ODM and we will punish you,” Ruto said.
The President’s remarks have sparked fresh debate about his early role in ODM before his political realignment. Ruto was among key figures involved in the formation of ODM following the 2005 constitutional referendum, though he later parted ways with the party leadership.
Political analysts note that the statement reflects the ongoing rivalry between Ruto and leaders allied to ODM, as political tensions continue to shape the national discourse.
Senator Sifuna has yet to formally respond to the President’s warning. Meanwhile, supporters and critics on both sides have taken to social media to weigh in on the exchange.
The latest remarks add to the growing political back-and-forth as leaders position themselves ahead of future political contests.
