Purity Ngina’s story is one of resilience and determination, making her a beacon of hope for many. As the youngest individual in Kenya to earn a PhD, her journey from humble beginnings to academic excellence is truly inspiring.
Born in 1990 in Nyeri County, Purity faced numerous challenges growing up. Despite her family’s financial struggles, she remained steadfast in her pursuit of education. After attending a local primary school, Purity initially scored 235 marks in the KCPE. Refusing to be discouraged, she repeated class 8 and improved her score to 368 points the following year.
Her determination continued into secondary school, where she excelled academically, eventually earning a place at Egerton University. There, she completed a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and chemistry, followed by a master’s degree in applied mathematics.
Purity’s academic achievements did not stop there. As a professor at Strathmore University, she received funding for her PhD in biomathematics. At just 28 years old, she became the youngest PhD holder in Kenya, a remarkable feat that highlighted her unwavering dedication to her field.
Today, Purity Ngina works as a research assessor for Zizi Afrique Foundation, while continuing to inspire others as an academic. Her story is a powerful reminder that with hard work, resilience, and a clear vision, anything is possible.
