Opinion: Why Gachagua’s DCP Party Might Have Majority Seats In Parliament After 2027 General Election

As the 2027 General Election draws nearer, Kenya’s major political parties are intensifying their efforts to strengthen grassroots support and boost popularity nationwide.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has been on an aggressive recruitment drive to maintain its influence across the country. The party continues to rally its supporters while re-strategizing to secure a stronger footing ahead of the next polls.

At the same time, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) — associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua — has been gaining significant momentum on the political scene. The party positions itself as a voice for ordinary Kenyans, pledging to prioritize citizens’ needs and concerns.

DCP officials have recently accused the current administration of worsening economic hardships for ordinary citizens, arguing that the so-called broad-based government has failed to deliver on key promises.

As dissatisfaction grows, analysts note that traditional giants like ODM and UDA appear to be losing some ground, especially in regions like Mt. Kenya, Western, and Eastern Kenya, where the DCP party is rapidly expanding its base.

With its populist message and active grassroots mobilization, the DCP party could emerge as a serious contender in several key regions during the 2027 elections.
