Popular comedian, entertainer, event organizer, and now one of Kenya’s leading podcasters, Oga Obinna, has openly confirmed that his political interviews are not free.
Speaking during an episode of the Mic Cheque Podcast, Obinna revealed that he has a rate card, and any politician who wants to feature on his show must pay for the slot.
Obinna disclosed that he currently charges Ksh 500,000 per interview, and insisted that politicians willingly pay the amount. He even claimed to have proof of transactions, mentioning that big names such as Hassan Joho, Mike Sonko, and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have all paid to appear on his platforms.
He urged fellow podcasters to monetize their airtime instead of hosting guests for free. According to Obinna, content creators should take their craft seriously and ensure they benefit financially from the influence and reach they have built.
Obinna’s revelation has sparked conversations online, with many Kenyans divided on whether it is ethical for politicians to pay for interview slots — or simply part of the new digital media landscape.
