Nimepigwa Vibaya! Bishop Margaret Wanjiru Decries Church Demolition

Prominent preacher Margaret Wanjiru has pointed fingers at government officials, accusing them of orchestrating the demolition of her church, Jesus is Alive Ministries. In an emotional statement to the press, Bishop Wanjiru disclosed, “I have been attacked; my arm and leg are injured, and I need to go to the hospital. My people have also been assaulted; everyone is bleeding.” She went on to claim that the assailants identified themselves as individuals sent by the Railways.

The former Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate revealed that individuals claiming to be officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) had visited the Haile Selassie Highway property before the church was demolished. According to Wanjiru, individuals purporting to be sent by Kenya Railways descended on the church, initiated the demolitions, and physically confronted anyone who attempted to impede their actions.

“I want to make it clear that this Weruga lane does not belong to Railways; this is our own investment, it is our church property,” she asserted.

The demolition incident followed a court decision in Nairobi that dismissed a 2022 petition challenging the installation of a wall between Kenya Railways’ property and Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s church. The petitioners, including Bishop Wanjiru Rhambai Patel, S&H Investments, and Soma Properties, had taken legal action against Kenya Railways Corporation, Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), and Kenya Urban Roads Authority, alleging that the ongoing development was limiting their access to Railway Lane, Exchange Lane, Weruga Lane, and Haile Selassie Avenue.

In response, Kenya Railways claimed ownership of the entire territory utilized by Wanjiru’s church and neighboring properties. According to Railways, the allocations to specific assets were made arbitrarily and were disconnected from their property.
