Grief has engulfed members of Nairobi’s street families community after they laid to rest 15 of their loved ones and friends who reportedly died from various health-related complications.
The emotional burial ceremony brought together fellow street families, well-wishers, and community volunteers who came to pay their last respects. Many described the loss as devastating, noting that life on the streets often exposes vulnerable individuals to harsh conditions and limited access to healthcare.
Sources within the community indicated that the deceased had been battling different illnesses, worsened by challenges such as poor living conditions, malnutrition, and inadequate medical support.
The tragic event has once again highlighted the struggles faced by people living on the streets, with calls for stronger social protection programs, improved access to healthcare, and sustainable rehabilitation initiatives.
Advocates are urging authorities and well-wishers to step up interventions aimed at supporting vulnerable populations and preventing similar losses in the future.
