Mt Kenya University student found dead after Sh27,000 ransom demand in Thika Estate

Thika West Police Station is currently investigating the tragic demise of Faith Musembi, a 19-year-old university student whose lifeless body was discovered in Pilot Estate, Thika, Kiambu County. The investigation was prompted when Faith’s father, Boniface Musembi, found her deceased in her residence after receiving ransom demands through her phone.

Upon receiving distressing calls demanding ransom, Boniface hurried to his daughter’s home, only to encounter a harrowing scene. Despite complying with the initial demands by sending Ksh27,000 to secure Faith’s release, the perpetrator persisted, demanding an additional Ksh33,000. Frustratingly, despite the family’s cooperation and reporting the matter to the Thika West Police Station, the authorities initially dismissed the situation as a possible ploy by Faith’s acquaintances.

Disillusioned by the police response, the family took matters into their own hands, alerting the university authorities about the situation. Meanwhile, Boniface decided to check on his daughter at her residence in Pilot Estate, where he made the devastating discovery of her lifeless body.

Subsequent to this grim revelation, law enforcement officials arrived at the scene and initiated investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding Faith’s untimely demise. Shockingly, details emerged of messages exchanged between Faith’s father and her assailant, indicating a demand for a larger sum of money and expressing disdain for the family’s attempts to comply.

A post-mortem examination conducted at General Kago Funeral Home unveiled the cause of Faith’s death as excessive bleeding. Moreover, it was revealed that Faith was pregnant at the time of her demise, raising further questions and underscoring the urgency for a thorough investigation.

Expressing their anguish and determination for justice, Faith’s cousin, Dominic Makau, urged swift action from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), emphasizing the need to ascertain the circumstances leading to Faith’s tragic fate.
