Mrs. Sarah Nyigei, the mother of the groom from the disrupted Bomet wedding, has shared her perspective on the unfortunate turn of events.
In an interview with The Standard, Ms. Sarah, mother to Amos Rono, pointed blame at the bride, Ms. Nelly Chepkoech, asserting that the 23-year-old had requested more time, leading to the suspension of the wedding.
Mrs. Sarah recounted how Ms. Chepkoech, on the day prior to the scheduled wedding, expressed a change of heart, citing her youth and unpreparedness for marriage. Mrs. Sarah quoted her saying, “Harusi haikufanyika kwa msichana alisema apatiwe nafasi yeye bado ni mdogo hajafikiria kuwa bibi. Eti hakuwa tayari.”
In response to Ms. Chepkoech’s decision, the family chose to part ways, with Mrs. Sarah declaring that they would not accept her anymore. “Sitakubali tena yeye akuje. Sitakubali tena akuje kwetu kwa vile amesema bado ni mdogo hajakuwa mzima kukuwa bibi,” she emphasized.
Amos’ mother mentioned that prior to this incident, the family was prepared to embrace Nelly Chepkoech as one of their own, having already paid the dowry for the 23-year-old. She confirmed the family’s patience in waiting for the couple to wed.
Reflecting on the situation, Mrs. Sarah expressed relief that the decision, albeit delayed, prevented a potentially turbulent and false marriage. “I can only imagine how disruptive and chaotic their marriage would have been if she pretended to go ahead with the wedding,” she remarked.
Despite the sorrow that accompanied the failed wedding, Ms. Nyigei stressed that their family harbors no ill feelings towards the Chepkoech family.
The mother engaged in a conversation with her son, Amos, who also insisted on calling off the wedding after his fiancée revealed a shocking secret about having another man.
Amos accused his fiancée of infidelity, a confession she made to him through a text message. He revealed, “There was a wedding that was supposed to take place yesterday, and it didn’t take place because the bride said there was someone else in the place she said before.”
Following the wedding’s failure, Amos announced that he had ended the relationship, extending well-wishes for her future endeavors. “I have let her go in my life and let her find another man because even if she said it without knowing, I forgive her,” he declared.
Amos confirmed his readiness to marry the 23-year-old and mentioned that even her father-in-law had approved of their union. The wedding was canceled a day before the scheduled date when Mrs. Chepkoech stunned Amos with her revelation. “It’s over between the two of us, and I’d like to wish him all the best. We have enjoyed a good relationship with her, and I was shocked she had not told me she has another man in her life,” Amos concluded.
