Kenyan middle-distance runner David Lekuta Rudisha, MBS (born 17 December 1988), is a celebrated athlete known for his remarkable achievements in the 800 meters. He won the Olympic championships in both 2012 and 2016, secured two World Championships titles in 2011 and 2015, and holds the world record in the 800 meters. Rudisha’s running career began at St. Francis Kimuron High School in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
David Rudisha is regarded as one of the greatest middle-distance runners of all time. He set a new world record of 1:40.91 at the London Olympics, a feat that earned him widespread acclaim.
David enjoys a happy family life. He married his longtime sweetheart, Lizzy Naanyu, in a private ceremony in 2010. Their daughter Charlene was born shortly after their wedding.
The couple welcomed their second daughter just days after Rudisha’s victory at the 2015 Beijing World Championships.
Rudisha’s last international race was on July 4, 2017. Since then, he has been sidelined by various injuries, including a quad muscle strain, back issues, a car accident, and ankle surgery.
Due to Rudisha’s injury, American Donavan Brazier won the 2019 World Championships and is now the heavy favorite to win gold at the Olympics.
In 2016, Rudisha surprised his followers on social media by posting a photo of himself in a police uniform, revealing a previously unknown aspect of his personality.
Kenyans reacted to Rudisha’s post with their characteristic mix of humor and admiration. Here are some reactions to the post about Rudisha’s family and his photo in a police uniform:
