On Monday, June 10, 2024, a man armed with a machete and a pair of scissors stormed Ragumo Police Station in Kisumu County, attacking and seriously injuring three police officers.
According to a police report, the assailant entered the station while yelling and shouting. “At approximately 12:30 PM, a male adult identified as Nicholas Agai, aged 25, approached the station, yelling and shouting, armed with a machete and a pair of scissors. Officers led by the OCS approached the suspect to contain him, but he turned violent and attacked the officers,” the report stated.
During the incident, one officer was stabbed in the left side of the chest and was rushed to Greys Medical Center in Kisumu, where he was admitted in critical condition. Another officer sustained injuries to the right hand, and a third officer was injured on the left hand during the scuffle.
Despite firing two warning shots into the air, the man refused to retreat or surrender. Eventually, the officers managed to arrest the suspect and placed him in custody.
This incident occurred just a few days after another violent encounter, where a driver assaulted a police officer on duty along Kamiti Road at Mirema Junction in Nairobi.
In this earlier incident, a traffic officer noticed a vehicle making an illegal U-turn, obstructing other road users. When the officer approached the vehicle to address the violation, the driver hit the curb, causing the car to get stuck. The officer entered the front passenger seat and instructed the driver to proceed to the police station. However, the driver suddenly stopped the car, drew a sword from under the seat, and attempted to attack the officer. The officer managed to escape the vehicle, but the driver followed, assaulting him with blows and kicks.
