A major breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the murder of General Service Unit (GSU) officer Ramadhan Matanka, who was brutally killed at State House, Nairobi, on Monday.
Fresh CCTV footage reviewed by detectives has revealed the chilling final moments before the fatal attack, offering a clearer picture of what truly transpired.
According to sources at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the footage shows Matanka and his alleged killer, Kithuka Kimunyi, calmly conversing inside the Gate D security booth for about 17 minutes before the attack.
The two officers had reportedly known each other for years, having first met while serving in former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Green Army initiative.
How the Attack Happened
Detectives say that after a friendly chat, Kimunyi suddenly reached into a bag, pulled out an arrow, and stabbed Matanka, who collapsed on the spot. The attack occurred shortly after two of Matanka’s colleagues had stepped out of the booth, leaving the two men alone.
This new evidence contradicts earlier police reports, which had initially claimed that the officer was attacked by a loitering man who had refused to stop when challenged by security personnel.
Suspect’s Shocking Confession
When arrested, Kimunyi — who is said to be twice Matanka’s age — reportedly told investigators that “dark forces” had driven him to commit the crime.
A Nairobi court has granted detectives 14 more days to hold and interrogate the suspect as investigations continue.
Security Review at State House
In response to the shocking incident, GSU Commandant Robinson Lolomodan has ordered a comprehensive review of security procedures at State House to prevent similar breaches in the future.
Final Farewell
The late officer, Ramadhan Matanka, aged 30, was laid to rest on Tuesday at his family home in Kajiado County, where hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their final respects.
Matanka’s colleagues described him as a dedicated officer, known for his discipline, humility, and devotion to duty.
