Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot has officially resigned from his position, effective immediately. The announcement was made during a meeting with senior county staff at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret, which was also attended by Governor Jonathan Bii.
In a press conference held on Monday, Governor Bii confirmed that Barorot’s resignation follows his appointment as Chief Executive Officer at an international ICT firm, a role he will begin on September 1, 2024.
Barorot explained that his decision to resign was driven by his desire to pursue new opportunities rather than any disagreements with the governor, as some had speculated. With over 30 years of experience in the ICT sector, Barorot expressed his excitement about this new transformation in his career.
“It’s a move to the private sector with a role that has a catalytic impact,” Barorot said. “I am leaving with pride due to my passion for the field and my positive experiences working with the governor and other staff members.”
Governor Bii commended Barorot for his dedicated service to the county and extended his best wishes for Barorot’s future endeavors. He highlighted that Barorot’s new position is beneficial for Uasin Gishu.
Barorot’s resignation follows a week of speculation, including rumors fueled by his absence from President William Ruto’s event last Thursday, where Eldoret was awarded city status.
The resignation comes at a time when the county government is adjusting to its new responsibilities following Eldoret’s elevation to city status.
