Comedian and television personality Katherine Ryan has spoken publicly for the first time about the father of her 16‑year‑old daughter, addressing what she described as his minimal involvement in their daughter’s life. In a recent interview on the Juicy Scoop podcast, Ryan candidly criticised her ex‑partner, whom she met on the comedy circuit in Canada but has never publicly named. She revealed that he has effectively remained a “no‑contact parent,” offering little more than occasional text messages and no meaningful financial support or sacrifices for their daughter, Violet.
Ryan explained that in the past she refrained from speaking about the situation out of respect for her daughter’s youth, choosing to “protect him” while Violet was younger. Now that Violet is a teenager, Ryan said she believes her daughter is old enough to understand the reality of her father’s lack of engagement. “He hasn’t been the type of dad that you would want for your daughter,” the comedian said, emphasising her disappointment in his absence.
Despite the criticism, Ryan has described her years as a single mother to Violet as a positive and rewarding experience. She also reflects on the effort it takes to maintain a supportive environment for her children while balancing her career and personal life. Ryan’s honesty about co‑parenting challenges highlights a broader conversation about parental responsibility and emotional involvement, particularly in blended and post‑relationship family situations.
The remarks mark a notable shift from Ryan’s previous silence on the matter, underscoring her belief that transparency about complex family dynamics can be empowering, especially as her daughter grows into adulthood.
