How Ngesh ‘Kaveve Kazoze’ fame Ended Despite Gaining over 5 Million Views on Youtube

Mary Wangechi, who is well known for her stage name, Ngesh, is not a stranger in Kenya’s music industry. Despite being a renowned artist, her career has not lasted for many years, as her breakthrough was in 2023.

Ngesh became a subject of debate all over the country after her song “Rieng Genje” went viral on YouTube. In the song, she featured her crew, Spider Clan. However, Mary Wangechi stole the attention of most Kenyans for being the only lady in the music group.

After becoming a sensation to Kenyans, the female musician released several songs, but it was not a walk in the park; the songs didn’t reach the heights of ‘Rieng Genje.’ As a result, Ngesh suddenly disappeared from the limelight and stopped releasing songs. This has been a surprise to Kenyans because the ‘Kaveve Kazoze‘ hitmaker had previously gained popularity with over 5 million views.

Rise to fame

Mary Wangechi became a popular figure in Kenya in 2023, thanks to the ‘Rieng Genje’ hit song. Prior to fame and popularity, Ngesh had a solo project, ‘Dem Dem,’ in 2022. This was immediately after she completed her secondary school studies (2021). As one would expect, her first song did not hit the airwaves.

Either way, the musician didn’t give up. A year later, she teamed up with several artists and formed the ‘Spider Clan.’.

The group worked together and produced their first song, ‘Rieng Genje,’ which unexpectedly became a success. Ngesh, the only lady in the group, gained more attention. Her Swahili-Kikuyu slang was another plus. Since then, she has garnered a substantial following and gained popularity in Kenya.

The Mystery of ”Kaveve Kazoze’s” Disappearance

Ngesh and the entire’ Spider Clan didn’t benefit from the fame of their viral song. The female artist revealed (during a previous interview) that they’ve suffered a lot due to lack of money. On the other hand, their fans have been claiming that the musicians have money, which isn’t the case according to Ngesh.

“When you meet people in the streets, they say you have money, and you can’t tell them you are broke,” Ngesh

In terms of finances and money, the young gengetone artist is where she was before fame if not worse. Ngesh has relocated to Naivasha, her hometown, where she does some hustles such as selling secondhand clothes. Musically, she hasn’t released any song for almost a year.
