Girl Who Sold Fruits to Raise University Fees Graduates with Second Class Upper

Many students from disadvantaged backgrounds face enormous obstacles while pursuing higher education, struggling to afford basic necessities such as food, shelter, and school fees. For some, these challenges become overwhelming, leading to them dropping out of university.

However, Judith Gimbo, a 24-year-old graduate from Kyambogo University, defied the odds and turned her story into one of perseverance and success. Recently, she graduated with a Second Class Upper Degree in Bachelor of Business Education after overcoming years of financial hardship.

Gimbo’s journey to success was not easy, but it was fueled by her resilience and determination. To finance her education, she sold jackfruits in her community, facing numerous obstacles along the way. Her financial struggles began after the passing of her father, Elieza Bumba, who was the family’s primary provider. His death left Gimbo, her siblings, and their mother to navigate a difficult path of self-sufficiency.

Despite these challenges, Gimbo refused to let her circumstances dictate her future. Instead of succumbing to adversity, she took control of her destiny and worked tirelessly to fund her studies.

“It wasn’t easy balancing my studies with hustling for school fees,” Gimbo shared in an interview. “But I knew education was my ticket out of poverty.”

Her journey required numerous sacrifices. Juggling academics with the demanding work of vending jackfruits tested her resolve, but her unwavering commitment has now resulted in success.

As a graduate, Gimbo is determined to inspire others in her community, showing that no dream is too big when supported by hard work and determination. She hopes her story will encourage others facing similar struggles to push forward and realize their potential.

Looking ahead, Gimbo dreams of providing a better life for her family by building a home where they can live with dignity. Her remarkable journey is a true testament to the power of resilience and determination.
