In a recent development, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended four individuals suspected of pilfering Sh94 million from Quickmart supermarket. The funds, originating from the supermarket’s weekend sales, mysteriously vanished on Monday while en route to a bank. The owner of the getaway vehicle used in the heist was arrested in Rongai, leading investigators to trace the vehicle itself to Njiru in Kayole. In Njiru, two additional suspects were apprehended while attempting to modify the vehicle to conceal its identity, as detailed in the police report.
The pursuit of investigative leads extended to Thika Road Mall (TRM) in Kasarani, where a fourth suspect was arrested at his rented residence. This intensified effort resulted in the successful recovery of Ksh9.1 million from the total stolen amount of Ksh94 million. Furthermore, an empty cash box was discovered in the forest adjacent to Gataka market in Karen, suggesting it to be the location where the stolen cash was distributed among the suspects. All crime scenes have undergone meticulous processing by the Crime Scene and Investigation (CSI) Nairobi Region, according to the official police report.
This swift and coordinated response by the DCI showcases the efficacy of law enforcement in swiftly apprehending suspects and recovering a significant portion of the stolen funds. The collaboration between investigative units, from tracing the vehicle to arresting suspects in multiple locations, reflects a robust effort to ensure justice is served in this high-stakes case.
