Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has stirred political debate after vowing to jail President William Ruto at Kamiti Maximum Prison should the opposition take power in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a political rally, Muturi accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of presiding over widespread corruption and economic mismanagement. He claimed that once the opposition forms the next government, it would hold senior officials accountable for alleged misuse of public funds and abuse of office.
“Those who have looted public resources and made life unbearable for ordinary Kenyans will face justice. Even the President himself will not be spared. We will take him to Kamiti,” Muturi declared amid cheers from the crowd.
The remarks come at a time when political temperatures are rising as the country edges closer to the 2027 polls. Opposition leaders have been intensifying their criticism of the government over the high cost of living, taxation, and alleged favoritism in state appointments.
Muturi, who once served as a close ally of President Ruto, has in recent months shifted his tone, aligning himself with opposition voices calling for accountability and reform. His comments have drawn mixed reactions across the political divide, with government supporters dismissing the threats as empty rhetoric meant to incite the public.
Analysts, however, note that such statements reflect growing discontent within political circles and may signal a realignment ahead of the next election. As campaigns begin to take shape, Muturi’s bold declaration adds yet another twist to Kenya’s charged political atmosphere.
