Rarieda MP and senior counsel Otiende Amollo has called for the immediate resignation of Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, saying his recent remarks were unacceptable and deeply offensive. Speaking during a press briefing, Amollo condemned Kahiga’s utterances, terming them “an abomination” that cannot be excused by a mere apology.
“Apologizing is not enough. We want Mutahi Kahiga to resign as the Governor of Nyeri. What he uttered is an abomination,” Otiende Amollo declared firmly.
Amollo said leaders must uphold dignity, respect, and unity, especially when addressing sensitive national issues. He argued that Kahiga’s statements had the potential to divide the country along ethnic and political lines, warning that such rhetoric has no place in Kenya’s modern democracy.
According to Amollo, public office comes with great responsibility, and any leader who disrespects the values of tolerance and cohesion should be ready to step down. “When leaders speak carelessly, they erode public trust and fuel unnecessary tension. Resignation is the only honorable thing left for him to do,” he added.
His sentiments have resonated with many Kenyans online, with social media users expressing outrage over the Governor’s alleged remarks. Several political leaders have also joined the chorus, demanding accountability and respect for the nation’s founding principles.
Otiende Amollo, a prominent lawyer and constitutional expert, maintained that forgiveness must go hand in hand with responsibility. He emphasized that Kahiga’s words had crossed the line and that stepping aside would set an example for other public officials.
As pressure mounts on the Nyeri Governor, the debate continues to highlight the growing demand for ethical leadership and accountability in Kenyan politics — where words, once spoken, can carry serious political consequences.
