General Francis Ogolla, the former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), is set to be interred at his family estate in Mor, Alego Usonga, Siaya County, on Sunday, April 21, 2024. The family, speaking to Citizen Digital, disclosed that General Ogolla had stipulated in his will that his burial should take place within 72 hours of his demise.
Preceding the burial, a memorial service will be held at his local church in Nduru. The family further announced that a Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, April 26th, 2024, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Langata. This location holds significance as it was where General Ogolla often sought solace during his regular runs.
In collaboration with a committee from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the family is organizing the final rites to accord the distinguished General a fitting farewell.
General Ogolla met his untimely demise in a helicopter crash on Thursday in the Sindar area of Elgeyo Marakwet County, along with nine other military personnel.
Prior to his tragic passing, General Ogolla had plans to visit Siaya County on Saturday, April 20, to commemorate his father, Joel Okech’s upcoming 100th birthday celebration. The festivities were intended to extend into Sunday and include the local community.
In response to the loss, President William Ruto declared three days of national mourning in honor of General Francis Ogolla.
