Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a manhunt after a suspected drug dealer escaped, leaving behind four sacks of bhang worth Ksh2.5 million in Midodoni village, Malindi Sub County.
In a statement released on Monday, August 19, 2024, the DCI revealed that members of the Anti-Narcotics Unit stationed at Malindi Police Station are in pursuit of Morris Ware, a drug trafficker who managed to elude capture.
According to the DCI, the search began after the public reported Ware’s involvement in illegal drug activities. Officers conducted a raid on his store in Midodoni village. However, the suspect fled upon noticing the officers and left the store unattended.
Inside the store, the officers discovered 86 kilograms of bhang hidden in four sacks, with an estimated street value of Ksh2.5 million. The seized drugs were transported to Malindi Police Station for safekeeping and will be used as evidence in court as the search for Ware continues.
The DCI is calling on the public to provide any information about suspicious individuals or activities to help maintain a safe and drug-free community.
This incident follows the arrest of two suspects three days earlier in Mariakani, Mombasa County, where bhang valued at Ksh13 million was seized. Crispin Oduor Owino and his co-driver, Caleb Otieno Agolo, were apprehended after a tip-off led to a raid at the Mariakani weighbridge. They were found with 16 sacks of bhang and 200 large sticks of Cannabis Sativa.
The suspects and the drugs were taken to the Moi International Airport Police Station for further investigation. The substances were analyzed by the government chemist and confirmed to be bhang weighing 456 kilograms, valued at Ksh13,680,000.
