A cloud of mystery and shock hangs over Nairobi’s central business district after a businessman was found dead in a restaurant shortly after allegedly meeting a woman believed to be his “sugar mummy.”
The businessman, whose identity is being withheld until his family is notified, checked into the restaurant early Thursday morning. According to workers at the restaurant, he appeared to be waiting for someone and had ordered tea and snacks. However, minutes later, he was found unresponsive at his table.
“He looked healthy and was even on a call before he sat down. Then he just collapsed quietly,” said a waiter at the restaurant.
Police who arrived at the scene cordoned off the area and launched investigations. Witnesses claimed that the man had been seen earlier in the company of an older woman, believed to be his lover. Sources say the two had reportedly booked a room nearby the previous night.
Nairobi police confirmed the death and stated that detectives are treating it as sudden and suspicious. “We are aware of reports that he had checked in with a woman earlier. We are investigating all leads and waiting for postmortem results to determine the cause of death,” said the Nairobi police boss.
The woman he was last seen with is said to be missing, and efforts are underway to trace her. CCTV footage from nearby buildings is being reviewed to piece together the events leading to the man’s death.
His body was taken to City Mortuary for examination. No visible injuries were found on him, but investigators are not ruling out poisoning or underlying medical conditions.
The incident has shocked city residents, sparking debate on social media about secret relationships and personal safety. Police have urged calm as investigations continue.
