Busia Man Spends Sh1.8 Million on a Wedding, Only for Bride to Skip the Ceremony After Receiving Photo of Groom with Another Woman at a Bar

A wedding in Butula Sub-county, Marachi Central, turned into a chaotic scene after the bride failed to show up at the ceremony. The no-show came after the bride reportedly received a photo of her groom with another woman at a local bar, leaving guests and family members stranded.

The couple, who had been in a relationship for nearly 15 years, had been at odds for months regarding the wedding date. Initially, they planned to tie the knot in April 2025, but the bride insisted on moving the event to December 2024, offering to fund the wedding herself.

According to sources, the bride had even paid her own dowry, a decision that raised eyebrows within the community.

The situation worsened when the groom, a Nairobi resident with two wives, was spotted drinking at a bar with another woman believed to be one of his spouses. Upon receiving a photo of the incident, the bride confronted the groom, accusing him of not taking the wedding seriously due to his other marital commitments.

The ceremony was scheduled for Saturday, December 14, at a church in Butula. However, tradition dictated that the groom pick up the bride from her home. Despite promising he was on his way, the groom never arrived.

“He kept picking up calls and assuring us he was coming, but he never showed up,” said the bride’s grandfather, speaking to TUKO.co.ke anonymously.

As hours passed, the pastor decided to close the church, leaving the guests disappointed and the marriage ceremony unofficiated.

With the groom missing, guests moved to the bride’s home, where food for the reception had already been prepared. While some chose to eat, the atmosphere was far from celebratory.

The bride’s mother-in-law reportedly collapsed from the shock and was rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, the bride, heartbroken and humiliated, returned to her mother’s house to recover.
