Mark Margolis passed away on Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, following a brief illness. The news of his passing was shared by his son, Morgan Margolis, who is not only an actor but also the CEO of Knitting Factory Entertainment.
Throughout his career, Margolis graced the screens of both television and film, amassing an impressive portfolio of over 100 appearances. Notable among these were his roles in iconic productions like “Scarface” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.”
One of the high points in Margolis’ career came when he earned an Emmy nomination in 2012. This recognition was a result of his compelling portrayal of Hector “Tio” Salamanca in the acclaimed series “Breaking Bad.” Tio was a beloved character, known for his unique form of communication involving a brass bell attached to his wheelchair. Margolis continued to captivate audiences by revisiting Tio’s character in a younger incarnation, before his wheelchair-bound days, in the prequel series “Better Call Saul.”
Margolis honed his craft under the tutelage of the renowned acting teacher Stella Adler in New York, which undoubtedly contributed to his exceptional skills.

Survived by his wife, Jacqueline, his son, and several grandchildren, Margolis leaves behind a lasting legacy. Bryan Cranston, celebrated for his portrayal of Walter White in “Breaking Bad,” expressed his deep sorrow on Instagram, leading a chorus of tributes. Cranston praised Margolis as both a gifted actor and a warm-hearted individual. He recounted Margolis’ dual nature, reflecting how the actor’s off-set demeanor was characterized by a fun and engaging personality, while his on-set performances, such as in “Breaking Bad” and “Your Honor,” exuded an air of intimidation and fear.
Margolis’ unassuming energy concealed his mischievous spirit and insatiable curiosity. Fond of sharing a good laugh, he was a cherished friend to many. As the world mourns his loss, we remember and appreciate his remarkable body of work and the friendship he offered. Rest peacefully, Mark Margolis, and thank you for leaving an indelible mark on the world of entertainment.
