Afande Denno: Why My Monthly Salary Is Ksh.17,000

Before being transferred to Turkana, Afande Denno was stationed at Tassia Police Station in Nairobi. He gained national attention online for being one of Kenya’s most beloved police officers, known for his friendly demeanor and strong stance against police brutality—especially the shooting of innocent civilians.

In an exclusive interview with content creator 2mbili, Denno, who was still living in Eastlands at the time, opened up about the financial hardships he faces. He revealed that after deductions, he sometimes receives as little as Ksh 11,000, Ksh 13,000, or at best Ksh 17,000 from his monthly salary due to outstanding loans.

Denno clarified that the official police salary is around Ksh 30,000 per month. However, he emphasized that the public often overestimates how much officers earn. He added that the low pay is one of the reasons some officers resort to taking bribes or even collaborating with criminals by renting out police gear.

He also spoke candidly about the intense pressure, depression, and challenges that many officers go through behind the scenes. Despite these struggles, Denno maintained his commitment to protecting Kenyans, saying his goal has always been to serve—not to harm.
