Kenyan actress and media personality Jacky Nyaminde, popularly known as Wilbroda, recently left many in shock after recounting a deeply painful experience from her past. The celebrated Papa Shirandula star revealed that she once discovered her nanny had been secretly breastfeeding her young son—despite being HIV positive.
Speaking on the Mic Cheque Podcast, Wilbroda shared that the incident occurred years ago when her son was still very young. At the time, she was working in Mombasa and had no idea what was happening back at home.
She first heard whispers of the shocking behavior through a phone call but brushed it off as a rumor. However, her doubts were shattered when the late Charles Bukeko, famously known as Papa Shirandula, and his wife summoned her and confirmed the heartbreaking truth.
“My heart just dropped,” Wilbroda recalled, describing the fear and disbelief that overwhelmed her after learning not only about the breastfeeding but also the nanny’s HIV status.
That same night, she rushed her son to the hospital, accompanied by her sister, to have him tested. Too distraught to face the process herself, she let her sister take the child into the lab while she broke down in tears, desperately praying for a miracle.
To her immense relief, the test results came back negative—her son had not contracted the virus.
The very next day, Wilbroda dismissed the nanny from her home. However, she chose not to pursue legal action, explaining that the nanny’s actions were not malicious but rather a misguided attempt to soothe the crying baby.
Now that her son is grown, Wilbroda has shared the story with him, ensuring he understands what happened during his childhood.
Her revelation has sparked conversations about trust, child care, and the hidden struggles parents face while balancing work and family responsibilities.
