A Police officer in Kuria West is counting losses after girlfriend set his house on fire over Cheating Claims

A police officer residing in Kuria West, Migori County, finds himself grappling with significant losses as his property succumbed to flames allegedly ignited by his partner.

Police Constable Wycliffe Baraza returned to a devastating scene where his residence within Masaba Police Line had been engulfed in fire, purportedly initiated by his 32-year-old girlfriend, Mary Muthoni Mbugua. Baraza had earlier left his girlfriend alone at home while he ventured out, joining his colleague, Constable Amos Echukut, for a task approximately 5 kilometers away.

The distressing incident unfolded around 2:45 pm on April 2, prompting a neighbor to urgently contact Baraza via phone to relay the alarming news of his burning house. Hastening back to the scene, Baraza and Echukut discovered that the fire had been quelled by the post’s supervisor and others, albeit leaving behind only a solitary mattress spared from the ravages of flames, as documented in a report filed at Kehancha Police Station.

The fire wrought significant damage, claiming various possessions belonging to the officer, including a table, a 32-inch television set, a bed, gas cylinders of 13kg and 6kg, four plastic chairs, an Oppo mobile phone, and a carpet. Additionally, the inferno consumed Baraza’s professional gear, such as his Berret, smoke jacket, raincoat, two jungle trousers, two jungle shirts, a pair of blue uniforms, and an assortment of clothing estimated at KSh100,000.

According to the police report, the motive behind Mbugua’s alleged action stems from a discord related to a suspected romantic entanglement, prompting her to resort to such drastic measures as a form of reprimand.

Authorities have launched a search for the fleeing suspect, who originates from Njoro, Nakuru County, intensifying efforts to apprehend her and bring closure to the unfortunate incident.
