The plight of Kenyans working abroad and returning home to face financial and emotional hardships continues to be a growing concern.
One such case is that of Peris, a mother of two, who recently returned to Kenya after nearly three years working in Lebanon.
Her return was facilitated by the Kenyan government following an emotional appeal to a senior official.
However, what she hoped would be a fresh start has turned into a nightmare. Peris was met with hostility upon returning to her family home, where her brother, who had taken up residence in their father’s house, denied her entry.
This confrontation escalated to physical violence, forcing her to leave with her young son.
Now, Peris resides in a makeshift house made of iron sheets, struggling to provide for her children.
She recounted how her family drained her financially while she worked overseas, often claiming the funds were for her children’s needs.
Despite her sacrifices, she returned empty-handed, with no savings and no support system in place.
Her time in Lebanon had already taken a toll on her. Long hours, difficult working conditions, and the emotional strain of being away from her children left her exhausted.
Back home, instead of solace, she faces rejection and uncertainty, with no source of income or clear path forward.
She dreams of rebuilding her life and hopes for assistance from kind-hearted individuals to provide her children with a better future.
