A grieving family in Bomariba Village has conducted a symbolic burial for their son Clinton Nyapara, who reportedly died in Donetsk after joining the Russian Armed Forces last year.
The family had waited for months hoping that his body would be returned to Kenya, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Faced with the uncertainty and the prolonged delay, they decided to hold a symbolic burial ceremony to find some form of closure.
During the emotional ceremony, the family planted a tree in the grave that had been prepared for Nyapara. The tree now stands as a symbol of remembrance and a way for relatives and friends to honor his memory despite the absence of his remains.
Nyapara is believed to be among several Kenyan youths who travelled abroad and were reportedly recruited to fight in the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. Reports of such cases have raised concern as some families continue searching for answers about the fate of their loved ones.
For Nyapara’s relatives in Bonchari Constituency, the symbolic burial marked a painful but necessary step in accepting the loss while still hoping that more information about his final moments will eventually emerge.
